Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower

Constructed skilfully out of red bricks and granite, the Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower is a well known landmark in Hong Kong. This outstanding clock tower is also known as the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower since it is positioned on the southern coast of Tsim Sha Tsui. The tower is also the only remainder of the site that once used to house the former Kowloon Station on the Kowloon-Canton Railway. The plan to establish the Kowloon-Canton Railway was approved in with the main station slated to be positioned in Tsim Sha Tsui. Although the railway was launched on October construction work of the station did not commence until . Due to World War I it was practically impossible to import construction material in order to build the station. As a result construction work was put on hold and it was only in that the entire station along with clock tower was completed. Glenbrook in New Zealand is home to the country's foremost heritage sites for railways. The Glenbrook Vintage Railway GVR is a steam railway which is self sufficient. Due to the support and volunteerism generated from the Railway Enthusiasts Society the GVR was able to become a reality. The steam railway that operates is not a centre that serves the purpose of a museum instead it is an ongoing assignment where pieces of rail heritage are collected, restored and replicated as resources permit.
